Starring Peking Duck @The Plump Duck

Visit the Plump Duck for a grand dining experience. A large dining space with no expense spared in the fitout. This is evident as soon as you walk through the large doorway of the restaurant, you are greeted by the staff behind a huge boulder shaped to form their reservation counter. There is a large bar with an extensive drinks list and an open kitchen surrounded by a pond filled with koifish. The walls are intricate in design and there are a number of large sculptures and as well as a number of bells which represent wealth in Chinese culture.

We dined up stairs, which houses a number of private dining rooms including an exclusive room with direct carpark access. This room is fitted with high backed chairs and a large dining table. We were seated in the main upstairs dining area with a very long dining table surrounded by a number of ornate Chinese pieces.
Already inpressed by the restaurant layout, it didn’t stop there. The first meal for the evening was a favourite of many, the peking duck. Prepared to perfection by pumping the duck with air and hung to age which increases the flavour. What was to follow was a spectacle, the duck flambé then then sliced at the table. The duck served with a balance of carefully selected ingredients and paper thin pancakes. Chef, modernising this dish with pickles, mustard and sweet soy paste. With the additions inspired by the flavour combinations of a western favourite, the hamburger.

We also sampled the Delicious Curry prawns in a well balanced, mild curry. There were plenty of prawns, chesnuts and an assortment of vegetables. Served with some delicious cloud like buns to mop up the sauce when you are done. This also came out with another tasty dish being the toothfish. Yes, there was some fried rice too, but with a decadent twist. The fried rice served was a truffle fried rice, rich and flavoursome.

We finished with the truffle parfait. Nice and creamy, the truffle combining nicely with the sweetness of the parfait mix for a strangely delicious dessert.

A great restaurant space combined with good service and food, making for an excellent modern Chinese dining experience.
